"Where I'm From"

Inspired by GeorgeElla Lyon's "Where I'm From"

I am Santos

I am from the land of the low riders

the land that doesn’t sleep day or night

(parties)

but I left that so long ago

without a decision to stay or go

I am in 907 now which I hope to leave some day

I am from hard work and the party seekers

I am from the waking up early in the morning

and working all day in the field

to the staying up all night

and being wild

from the direct and the serious words of my mom

to having a few minutes fun conversation with my dad

I am from a big family tree that is spread all the over West Coast

I am going to be the first in my family to graduate

I can’t wait to leave school so I won’t have to deal with another
