Hello. My name’s Ben and I’m going to spend the next two weeks trying to get you guys to read poetry. In a few weeks I will be moving to Tuluksak, about 40 miles northeast of Bethel. I’ll be teaching middle school language arts and social studies, but also probably picking up a few other subjects (like P.E. and music). I was born and raised here in Alaska and just moved back, having spent the last four years in Vancouver, Washington. I really do love reading and writing, but I’m also obsessive about baseball and music. I have about 10 favorite authors, so I won't list them all here. As far as poetry, my favorite books are "Rose" by Li-Young Lee and "The World Doesn't End" by Charles Simic. I worked with Write Alaska last year and it was an amazing experience. The first few hikes were a little painful, but I was definitely in shape by the second week. I can’t wait to do these hikes and see how they inspire your writing!
