Shadow Poem by Queen

Queen
“Where I’m from”
“Where I’m From” inspired by George Ella Lyon

I am from the sweet pineapple fields.
with juicy fruits and wonderful joy.
From the sunrise up to where the sunset ends,
The sun hides under the blue sea blanket.
I am from the sands that lay on the shores to await the
Deep blue sea to cover the brown sands for a tuck of goodnight sleep.
I am from the blue water that hits the rocks on the shore
As if it were sweet ice tea hitting the ice in a clear cup.

I am from a family that has a strong backbone to help support the team.
I am from my Fatherly advice He gives me when I am in need of help
I am from my father's cooking on Thanksgiving
(Hot sweet baked potato, green beans, a thick piece of turkey with smoked ham,
a nice brown looking caramel gravy, and hot fresh home made bread.)
I am from my mother when it comes to being over-protective of my brother and sister.

I’m from a place people call paradise
I’m from a place that my family calls the islands, our home sweet home.
Where my grandfather’s house lies on a hill that looks over half of the island.
I’m from a place where my family was born and raised
I am from an island where the people sweat a rainstorm when they work hard.

I am from a time where when I was young
my mother and father were my best friends.
I am from a time when I never really cared
about who was handsome and who was charming,
I am from a time when all I cared was leaving my shoes
in the car and running off to the cold brown sand
and digging my tiny little piggy toes into the sweet cold brown sand
before diving into the blue cold sea that awaits for me.
